Modular kitchen ideas

Dear Homemakers, we know your everyday drill: your silent cry for onions, the ongoing feud with the dishwasher, and the never-ending hunt for spatulas in overcrowded drawers.

And are you tired of looking for Modular Kitchen design ideas to ease your workload?

Here at Elephanto, our modular kitchens are designed to work smarter. So your kitchen helps you out, instead of testing your patience.

And yes… we know. Talking about how good we are can feel a little awkward. So we didn’t.

Instead, we went back to one of our clients and asked them to spill the beans on how they maintain their kitchen clean and what it’s really been like living with an Elephanto modular kitchen and interiors for a whole year.

Meet Mr. & Mrs Mohan

Mr Mohan is from Chennai, and last year we worked on the interiors of his Manapakkam apartment.

From the start, Mrs Mohan knew exactly what she wanted: a white and gold-themed home that exudes elegance and royalty. No compromises there.

From the living room to the modular kitchen design, and right through to the master and kids’ bedrooms, we designed every space exactly the way she had imagined.

But let’s be honest, a glossy white kitchen looks stunning, but it’s not the easiest to live with, especially in a South Indian home, where cooking involves a fair amount of oils and spices.

You have to either sacrifice the taste of your food or the shiny finish of your interiors.

Because Indian spices are rich in flavour… and even richer when it comes to stains.

Keeping that shine intact takes effort, and without the right maintenance and planning, it can quickly lose its charm.

Revisiting Mr Mohan’s Modular Kitchen Design After a Year

So, we went to revisit Mr Mohan’s home to know how they maintain their home interiors. But to our surprise, the home looked like how we left it after the interior work.

Not to be dramatic, but you can literally see your reflection on the walls. And the kitchen? Oh god! It looked as if no cooking had ever happened.

The countertop, the pull-out drawers, and every part of the kitchen screamed royalty and elegance even after a year of living.

When we asked how she maintains the kitchen this clean, she chuckled and replied,” I like to keep things simple, I am a working woman, and I have a 6-year-old daughter, so I designed my kitchen to my convenience and spend little time of everyday to clean it.”

Mrs Mohan’s 5 Simple Tips To Maintain The Kitchen

We picked some interesting yet simple tips on maintaining the kitchen clean from the conversations with Mrs. Mohan and compiled them as a listicle to save you from hours of frustration and stress.

1. Clean as you go

Waiting for the weekend to clean your kitchen countertop? Mrs. Mohan says, “Aiyo no! Weekend is only for biryani and naps”.

She continues, “I spend most of my time in the kitchen, so I like to keep the place clean. I wipe my countertops or instruct my maid to do it when I wait for something to boil or cook”.

According to her, cleaning and wiping are not a weekly habit. It’s a daily chore.

Pro-tip: Don’t leave your stove messy and let your sink pile up with dishes. Clean it or wipe it when you wait for the milk to boil.

2. Pull-out drawers

We designed a customised pull-out drawer cabinet under Mrs Mohan’s kitchen countertops. She keeps all her everyday essential cooking utensils and spice boxes in it.

She said it saved her from keeping things on the countertop. Plus, it helped her avoid stains on the surface.

Pro-tip: Utilise your pull-out drawers to the maximum and keep the essential things within reach to avoid a catastrophic hunting session.

3. Cylinder unit

Tired of asking for help from your husband to change the cylinder? Mrs Mohan figured out the answer for you.

She requested us to customise her cylinder unit to look like a cabinet, but at the same time, she wanted it to be convenient enough to change the cylinder on her own.

Now, the unit blends in so seamlessly, it’s almost invisible, like the food is being cooked in thin air.

Pro tip: Choose cabinet designs that work for you. Don’t pick a design just for how it looks.

4. Decor Pieces

Mrs Mohan organises all her cooking spatulas in her cutlery drawers. This keeps the cooking space tidy and easy to access. She’s also added a fish bowl and a money plant to the open crockery shelves, while growing green leafy vegetables on the kitchen balcony.

These little touches bring in freshness, liveliness, and a whole lot of personality to her kitchen.

Pro tip: Add personality to your kitchen. It doesn’t have to be a pricey decor item; it can be as little as a hanging plant.

5. Well-organised wardrobe

Mrs Mohan’s smart planning didn’t stop at the kitchen door; you can see it in her master bedroom and her daughter’s bedroom, too.

Inside the wardrobe, she’s neatly separated casual wear and office wear, making it easy to find what she needs without creating a messy pile.

She’s even organised her daughter’s toys on the lowest shelf of the wardrobe, so little hands and tiny toes can reach them without needing mum’s help.

Pro tip: Plan things backwards. For example, if your kids tend to eat snacks often, and they leave them messy in the kitchen. Keep the basic snack items in the dining space.

Conclusion

To be known is to be seen. From Mrs Mohan’s conversation, we get to know how much she cares for her home and family. And it made us happy that she utilises our functional designs very well.
